A number of retailers have volunteered to donate odds and ends of wool yarn for the Greensburg afghans. Please see the list on the sidebar and consider throwing some of your yarn-fix dollars in their direction.

I haven't read down through here yet, but have you checked out the Linus Project? People make blankets for children to cuddle, and they're given to police/fire/emergency workers so they can give them to a child in need.
A chance to make something a reasonable size that can do real good!
Makes me tear up just thinking about it.
